The differences are mostly cosmetic: furniture (stock) and lack of a barrel-band (30AS has a front-end cap like some other Marlin models)... (See pic for barrel-band vs end-caps styles...) Steve is correct, subtract the first two digits of the serial number from 100 to get year of manufacture. There were 268,905 of the Model 30A's made during the production run.Jan 7, 2021 · Hello, this is my JM stamped Glenfield 30A which is basically a Marlin 336 but with a cheaper stock and its in great condition. By my research it was made in 1973 based on the serial number. There is still plenty of rifling left so it hasn't been used that much. It comes with a Japanese made scope that is Glenfield branded and is very clear. Marlin has since dropped the use of the Glenfield name. Marlin marketed the following lever action center-fire rifles under the Glenfield name: Model 36G, from 1964-65. Model 30, from 1966-1972. Model 30A, from 1973-1983. Model 30GT, from 1979-1980. Model 30AS, in 1983.
