Barricading outside means 4 boards come down 1 at a time before window breaks. You can board both sides, and boards still come down 1 at a time. So 8 boards per window. 1,2,3,4 window break, 1,2,3,4, zombies can get in. I am pretty sure right click remove barricade is also only 1 board at a time now. I have been playing this game for years and ... Or barricade the windows and leave the door unbarricaded, since zombies by default cannot open doors. A single zombie won't break an unbarricaded door. If two zombies attack the door then you somehow led them to it and no matter the strength of the barricade they'll eventually destroy it.

I play with easy sandbox settings and have been slightly making things harder every run to try to get better and challenge myself. However - it makes NO sense to me that a zombie can thump his rotting head and hands into metal fucking bars that I welded to the window frame and break them down. No number of zombies should be able to break that.

I've gotten a good base location (mostly fenced in besides 2 entry points) and I'm wondering if road barricades that are near me can actually be useful against zombies. I saw them get stuck in them.
