There are a few reasons I can think of to buy just the upper though. The last conversion kit for the Virtus also came with the MCX trigger and folding stock adapter for $1,799.

I also bought a separate 14.5" barrel conversion kit recently, but that barrel is tapered at the end.

You shouldn't be clamping the receiver to remove muzzle devices. This can stretch the entire receiver body. It's only aluminum.
